This month, two of my friends are getting ready to move into new houses [their first house for both!]. Your first house is so exciting – really, every new house is exciting, but there is something about going to closing and getting the keys to your first house that you never forget.
Our Home Ownership Journey
I talk like I’m a seasoned expert, but we’ve only purchased 2 houses. Our first house was built in the early 1960s and had been updated over the years, but needed some work. We spent the first couple weekends that we owned the house painting, updating light fixtures, and renovating the bathroom. Many of you are aware that we built our second home [as that process was the inspiration for my blog!].
I would love to build again one day and this time, I would try to design each space prior to actually building. You learn so much through the building and subsequent decorating process. It has taken me a year and a half to figure out how I actually want to decorate the house and what we are going to use each space for. I’d love to be able to do a lot of that before the house is finished next time to save money and my and my husband’s sanity lol.
Since I know the house buying process and decorating a new space can be overwhelming, I wanted to design master bedroom retreats for both of my friends as they move into their new homes!
Master Bedroom Design
Both of my friends have what I would classify as “modern farmhouse” styles. While modern farmhouse is really a wide range of styles [in my opinion], I used pictures of their new homes as the basis for my designs, which you can see further down in this post!
