I was recently asked to help design a kitchen eating area for someone who is currently remodeling their whole kitchen! This was such a fun project. Kitchen design is hard but so rewarding in the end!
I love a bright white kitchen with a different island color [obviously if you’ve seen my kitchen, lol]. The plan for this kitchen remodel was white outer cabinets and a dark gray island – YES PLEASE!
The space for the eat-in kitchen was pretty small, so I stuck with a 4 person table [which was what they currently have in the space!]. I put together 3 different options, all of which have classic pieces that could really be interchangeable!

Kitchen Eating Area Option 1
Option 1 features a natural wood table with white chairs. I actually have the gray version of this table in my breakfast nook! It’s from Pier 1 – which is going out of business if you didn’t know – so this table is currently on sale! Chrissy Marie Blog did a whole write up of how it’s held up for her family – check that out here! I also suggested a gray beaded chandelier which I think will tie into the gray island perfectly!
Kitchen Eating Area Option 2
For Option 2, I wanted to add a round table into the mix. I love the idea of a round table for a small eating area [especially if the space is somewhat close to square]. I paired a two-tone table with the Serena & Lily Riveria chairs, which are really stunning. Then, I added some additional warmth with these barstools from Ballard Design and kept the light fixture simple to tie in with the kitchen cabinet hardware.
Kitchen Eating Area Option 3
I love these bistro chairs, so they were the starting point for option 3! My client also preferred a wood table to a colored or white table, so I stuck with that and found a coordinating rectangular table. I chose the same beaded light fixture as option 1 but in white to lighten everything up. Funny enough, right after I put this design together, I saw that Lauren McBride has a very similar light fixture in her dining room and it looks amazing – check it out here!
Which is your favorite?? I’d love to know!
