This is my 4th room reveal and it probably should have been my 1st because our kitchen is definitely the place where I spend the most time! It’s also probably my most photographed room.
If you’re interested, you can check out my other reveals here:
Back to the kitchen – I think I had the best vision for this space of all the rooms in our house when we started building. I LOVE white kitchens. I wanted it to be light and bright. At the same time, an all white kitchen can be a little boring (albeit gorgeous), so I decided I wanted to do the island a different color. Although to be honest, this space didn’t really all come together until we picked our hardwood floor stain towards the end of construction. Let’s dive into more of the specifics! Also, I will include all the sources at the very end!

FLOOR PLAN // We did a few things to change the layout of our kitchen from our original proposed plan. We added the two windows on either side of the hood, which was something I kind of thought of last minute, but the BEST decision. We already have so many cabinets, I can’t imagine having more cabinets there and less light. We also added a double oven. The plan originally had a single oven and microwave above it. Since we added the double, we moved the microwave to the right of our refrigerator and made it a drawer microwave.
The overall kitchen area is approximately 20′ x 13’6″. The island is 9′ long and there is about 45″ between the island and the kitchen cabinets.
CABINETS // Our cabinets are completely custom. We met with a cabinet designer and although we didn’t make too many changes to the original proposal, there were a few things I really wanted. First, we extended the cabinets to the ceiling. This was really important to me. I think the kitchen looks SO much more finished and custom when the cabinets go to the ceiling. We did some of them with glass fronts and some of them have regular wood fronts. The glass is obviously more expensive, so we only put them where it would make an impact (haven’t actually put anything in them to decorate yet). We also added some drawer stacks. I think drawers are so much more convenient than cabinets, so we added two stacks on either side of the stove. We have ALOT of storage in this kitchen, so much so that I haven’t even filled all the cabinets, but I’m sure it will come in handy one day!
PAINT // It did take me a long time to decide on the color for the island. I was going for a blue gray, but do you know how many different blue gray paint colors there are?? It was a huge decision because you can see our island from most of the first floor. I didn’t want it to be too blue or too gray and this color really set the tone for the rest of the house. We actually ended up doing this color for our laundry room cabinets and jack and jill bathroom vanity as well.
White Cabinets / Custom Color based on cabinet manufacturer’s selections. It is called Frosty White. As a result, all of the trim in our house is a custom color to match these cabinets.

BUTLER’S PANTRY // Our butler’s pantry connects our kitchen and formal dining room. It has a full wall of cabinets on one side and then open shelving with cabinets and a wine rack below on the other. The full wall of cabinets is where I store our food. We decided to do open shelving here to break up all the cabinets – we already have enough of them! These shelves match our mantle. We also decided to shiplap the wall behind the shelves to bring in another accent and to tie to the shiplap we have on our fireplace surround and in our powder room. We considered tiling this wall with the backsplash from the kitchen but it was much more expensive to do that vs the shiplap. In the cabinets below, I store my supplies for entertaining and parties!
