Hi friends! I recently finished styling my new console table [which is actually a cabinet, not a table, which is great for extra storage!] so I thought I’d write a post today about how I decorated this space! First, I’m going to share some inspiration and some women who have beautifully styled console tables and then my 4 easy steps for console table styling! Keep on reading for more goodness!

Console Table Styling Inspiration
I will talk about how each of these tables are great examples of my 4 steps to style your table further below!
First up this is beautiful table from Katie at Halfway Wholeistic. First of all, I love the wood tone in this table! It’s the perfect light gray wash! I also love the length! As you’ll see with my table, I really wanted it to fill the whole wall so I pushed two cabinets together!
Next is Sarah at LifeonVirginiaStreet. This cabinet is actually in her office and looks a little similar to the style of my console! I love the simplicity in this console table decor.
Another one of my favorite console tables comes from Andrea at LifeonCedarLane. I always love seeing her console table decor and how she updates it throughout the year.
Lastly is Kasey at SBKLiving. I love Kasey’s holiday decor, so I wanted to share both her Fall and Christmas console tables. Console tables are a great place to display seasonal decor!
4 Steps for Console Table Styling
1. Large Center Item
First, you want to start with a large item in the center of the table on the wall [either hung or leaning]. Artwork and mirrors are great ways to accomplish this. The scale of this piece should match both the scale of your table and your wall. For example, my table is 68″ long and we have 10′ ceilings, so I chose a 42″ mirror to fill the space. This adds height to your table and makes the whole wall look purposefully decorated.
2. Anchor the ends
Then, you want to anchor the ends with taller or larger pieces. For summer, I chose a tall lemon tree [which I can easily switch out to a vase and stems or a winter tree] on one side and a plant on the other size. I added books underneath the plant to add more height. Another great option to anchor the ends with is a table lamp.
3. Decorate the middle
Once you have your large center item and ends anchored, it’s time to fill in the middle! There are lots of ways to do this but one easy way to do this is to group your decor into “three’s”. You can see on the right, my group of 3 is my anchor plant, candle, and picture frame. On the left, my group of 3 is my anchor tree, larger picture frame, and decorative tray with beads.
Since my table is so large, I chose to add a piece of art in front of the mirror [the frame is 16″x20″ for reference]. This helps to make sure that the middle doesn’t feel too empty, but I don’t need a lot of knick knacks or little decor to fill the space.
4. Don’t overdo it!
Similarly to my small space design tips [read them here!], less is more! You don’t have to decorate every square inch of your console table. Some empty space is great as it places more emphasis on the decor that is there. There is a balancing act between too little and too much and you just have to play around with it a little!
