Happy Sunday y’all! I thought I’d start today off with some gorgeous coastal contemporary home office designs! My own home office is almost complete (finally – read about my plans here) but I’m kind of wishing it looked like these designs!
I created these designs for a client who is currently building a new home (you can check out some of my home building tips here). They’re looking for a light and airy coastal feel and with everyone working from home more these days, I wanted this space to really feel complete for them!

Coastal Contemporary Color Palette
You guys know my first step is always selecting a color palette! I think it’s important to create a cohesive color palette across the whole house, so I incorporated several paint options into this design. For a coastal contemporary cohesive feel, I took inspiration from Sarah at Life on Virginia Street – you can check out her paint colors here! First, I selected BM Simply White for the majority of the walls in the house. This white isn’t too stark and will be a great neutral backdrop for furniture! For accent colors, I chose a nice neutral gray (BM Classic Gray), two blue-gray tones (BM Water’s Edge and BM Providence Blue), and a classic navy blue (BM Hale Navy).
Home Office Option 1
My first coastal contemporary home office design option included a herringbone accent wall in BM Hale Navy. This was inspired by Liz at Desert Decor‘s home office – check it out here! The client already had a leather desk chair and contemporary glass top desk that they wanted to keep so I incorporated my colors and patterns around that! I wanted the large glass desk to be centered in the room so you’ll see the same placement in every design!
The rest of the decor I wanted to keep light and bright to flow with the coastal contemporary feel!
Home Office Option 2
The second option features a wainscoting detail on the bottom half of the walls and BM Hale Navy on the top. I think Hale Navy is a great choice for this room because a home office is a great place to add a darker, moody color! It adds some contrast and definition to the room, especially when the majority of the walls in the home are white!
Home Office Option 3
For the 3rd and 4th designs, I incorporated built-in bookcases. I think bookcases are a great addition to a home office, both for storage purposes and visual interest! This particular room is fairly large (it was built to be a formal dining room – but I actually feel like a lot of people are getting rid of their formal dining room in favor of home offices!) If you’re anything like me, it can be hard to figure out what to do with large walls and a bookcase is a great solution!
For this design, I suggested painting the bookcase BM Hale Navy – as inspired by Studio McGee (check out their dark built-in styling here!)
Home Office Option 4
This option, which incorporates white built-in bookcases with BM Hale Navy walls, was also inspired by Studio McGee! I wanted to make sure this option really had some coastal elements in it and didn’t get too modern so I added a rattan pendant which I love! I also love a good gallery wall. This office is at the front of the house and is one of the first walls you see when you walk through the front doors, so I love the idea of some personal photos here!
I offer 4 e-design and 3 in-person design packages ranging in price from $50 to $275! All packages include full accessibility and communication with me as well as unlimited revisions!
Which option is your favorite!? Tell me below in the comments!
