Happy Wednesday! Today, I wanted to share a design I just finished (look at me getting a blog post done the same day as a design!). This client is moving into a new house and wanted to create a colorful living room and master bedroom. The overall house design was very neutral – lots of whites and beiges – and they wanted something a little more exciting! This is actually something I’m finding more and more with my clients. While I LOVE a good neutral design, people are craving some color. We are seeing this in 2022 design trends – for example, the arrival of green kitchens.
We used furniture they had already purchased and added all the decor and styling elements – rugs, pillows, bedding, curtains – you get the idea! Scroll on below to see my ideas!

Living Room
The sectional was already purchased, so that was the basis for the room layout. I like to include floorplans with most of my designs to give a visual of how I would lay things out. This really helps me look at flow and sizing as well!
Option 1 – Blue Tones
My first living room design option came together based on this rug with some pastel tones – blues, teal, yellow, and gray. The living room walls are a wam white so really a blank slate! I put together a color palette based on this rug and then was able to find the decor pieces that all worked within this palette.
I added some main pieces in different tones of blue – the accent chairs, poufs, lamp, artwork. Then, I added in some pops of yellow with the pillows. I also wanted to add in different texture with the storage cabinet, end table, and baskets for the plant/tree.
Option 2 – Mid-Century Modern
Option 2 also was based on the rug! I found this rug at West Elm and it has some mid century modern vibes, so I added that style into the design. The lines on these pastel blue chairs really work with the mid century modern style and I added some moroccan poufs to keep the style consistent.
The storage cabinet is actually two cabinets pushed together – this is what I did in my entryway and it worked out so well! You can see how I did it in my home here.
Master Bedroom
In the master bedroom, the bed, nightstands, and chest were already purchased from Restoration Hardware. They are part of the Maison line which you can shop here. While we weren’t sure of the room’s paint color, I was able to do my design directly in a photo of the room so I was able to make sure the color palette would work with the current wall color. I’m guessing it’s something like SW Accessible Beige or SW Balanced Beige!
Option 1 – Blue and Pink
For Option 1, I stuck with a similar color palette to the living room – blue, teal, and pink tones. I wanted this to feel upscale and luxurious (as most Restoration Hardware designs do!) and still comfortable! It has a slight feminine touch with the botanical prints above the bed and silver floral and vine detailed mirror. I used ivory curtains and duvet to keep the color palette warm in line with the beige wall color.
Option 2 – Earthy Tones
I wanted to go in a slightly different direction for option 2 and add in some deeper tones and navy blues. I used a striped navy curtain (one of my favorites from Pottery Barn!) to add some pattern and tie together the rug and throw blanket. The rug has some orange and red tones in it which I incorporated by adding tobacco cozy throw pillows on the bed. There are still lots of neutral tones in this design but some pops of color, which allows the colorful elements to really shine!
