Happy Tuesday! Today I wanted to share a DIY Ironing Board Hanger that we just finished up last week. For me, this idea came about because we don’t have a closet or cabinet in our laundry room that is big enough for our ironing board. I still wanted the ironing board to be in the laundry room (because it was somewhere else I definitely would iron even less than I do now, lol) but I also wanted the room to look finished and decorated. Leaning the ironing board against the wall just looked like I never got around to putting it away.
When I decided I wanted to hang the ironing board, I first had to buy a new one (linking the one I got here), because the legs of my old one wouldn’t accommodate hooks. However, I did keep the cover from my old ironing board because the colors went with my other laundry room decor really well!
Then I bought these hooks to hang my ironing board on. Instead of just attaching them to the wall, I wanted to make it a little fancier so I attached the hooks to a piece of wood. Here are the steps we followed to create this look!
First, I cut (Alex cut), sanded, and stained my wood. I used 4″ by 8′ piece of wood that I got from Lowe’s and cut it to 10″ after measuring my width of the feet of my ironing board. I used a dark walnut stain (linked here). After letting the stain dry, we were ready to install it!
Then, Alex attached the wood to the wall. There weren’t any studs where I wanted it so we used drywall anchors to make sure it was secure. He had to pre-drill the holes through the wood as well and then into the wall. Just a special note – we bought extra long screws to make sure they were long enough to make it through the wood and into the wall far enough in the anchor.
Once the wood was attached to the wall, Alex installed the hooks on the wood. The hooks came with a “cap” to cover the screws, but we ended up not using them because the ironing board wouldn’t fit with them. I think it still achieved the look I was going for anyways!
Now, the ironing board is off the floor and flows seamlessly with the rest of my decor and it’s still functional! Win-win!
