Hey there! I feel like it’s been a while since I shared a design and today I have a bunch of them! Below I’m sharing a main living area design I did for a client who just moved into a new home! I also shared their bedroom design on LikeToKnow.it a little while ago – check it out here! This house has an open concept floor plan with the kitchen, dining room, and living room all in one open space. I also did an entryway and mudroom/dropzone area design to round out the first floor of the home!
All the details are linked below! If you don’t see a link to something you’re looking for, message me here or email me at [email protected] and I will find it for you!

Main Living Area Overall Vision
First, I put together a mood board if you will to make sure that every area of this open concept space really works together. I also added all the paint and accent colors that were used in the rest of the house. For me, design is really elevated when the whole house flows together cohesively and these color swatches are definitely one way to make sure it all works! Feel free to message me or leave a comment on this post if you’re interested in what specific colors these are!
I also wanted to make sure the lighting all coordinated as you can see multiple fixtures at the same time. Their builder didn’t put in lights but pre-wired everything! The kitchen island pendants are from Ikea and you can find them here. Everything else is linked below!
Kitchen Decor
I used modern farmhouse touches in the kitchen with wood barstools, neutral runner rugs, and wood accents in the decor. My clients are big Disney fans so I added a few fun Disney touches too! It’s fun to incorporate personal items and style while still maintaining a pleasing decor atheistic!
Dining Room Design
For the dining room, I actually put together two options – both similar utilizing the same curtains, table, and rug, but different light fixtures, chairs, and centerpiece.
I like the idea of using different end chairs to differentiate and add some contrast. I also think it makes the space slightly less formal with two different style of chairs (in most cases!). You can see I went with this approach in my own dining room – check out my new table and chairs in my Christmas Tablescape post here.
With that being said, the tufted chairs in option 2 are very classic and timeless. Since this is the only dining area in the house, it will be used for both every day and larger gatherings! These chairs are a great deal and currently on sale – you can get two for under $100 each!

Living Room Design
In the living room, I incorporated a large gray sectional, added shiplap along the main entertainment center wall, and a gallery wall to take up a VERY large wall. I think these pieces really help to define the living area, which can be important in an open concept space!
The bottom picture on the right is a great visual for how everything would be laid out and flow together!
Entryway Design
There were two pieces to my entryway design – first a small drop zone / mudroom area right off the garage, and second the foyer and hallway areas coming in from the front door.
For the drop zone, I created 3 different looks. Two of those incorporate shiplap. As you can see, I used shiplap in several areas of this house which I think adds a custom touch, creates cohesion, and adds to the modern farmhouse style my clients were going for! I wanted to give some varying levels of what could be done with the space based on how much of a project they were looking for!
For the foyer and hallway area of the entryway, I also provided two different options! The foyer had a small cutout nook around the staircase, which I added a plant and some furniture too. For the hallway, I love doing a console table with either large art of a mirror above. You can check out my console table styling tips here! I also kept the rugs consistent in this area with the same rug, just in different sizes behind the door and down the hallway. Because they are so close to one another, I think two different patterns would just compete with one another!
