Happy Sunday Friends! Sharing another design board today – for a fun home office with a mid-century modern twist! I’ve done a few home offices lately. It’s funny how I seem to work on a certain room type a few times in a row! Check out my other recent home office designs here and here [this one was for my own – still working on that project!].
Home Office Color Palette
We stuck with the paint color that was already in the room – SW Intellectual Gray – and I incorporated the paint color that is in the dining room across the hall [which can be seen from the office even with the french doors closed!] – SW Smoky Blue. I also included an orange tone in the color palette – SW Spiced Cider – as my clients went to the University of Florida and I knew we would be incorporating some blue and orange. I wanted to make sure those colors flowed with the rest of the room!

Mid-Century Modern Design
This home office ended up lending itself to a slightly mid-century modern design because the clients already has an awesome audio cabinet with hairpin legs. It’s not overly mid-century modern as I kept some more traditional elements as well.
Home Office Design Elements
Let’s talk about the individual elements that I put into this design which I think can work in any home office!
- Desk and Chair anchored by a rug : Obviously any home office needs a good workspace and comfortable chair! A rug helps to tie it all togther.
- Storage : I utilized bookcases the clients already had in this design, but any type of bookcase or built in is very functional and usually a necessity in a home office!
- Lighting : I added a 3 head floor lamp to give another lighting option other than the ceiling light. This also helps to add height to the room.
- Gallery wall : This helps to take up a large wall in your office and also adds a personal touch! Also great for displaying memorabilia or diplomas/certifications.
- Sitting area : In this design, I incorporated a cool blue chair as well as a small bar cart and fun bar art print. The clients wanted this space to have a masculine feel and I think the bar cart with decanter and whiskey glasses helps to achieve that! This can also be done in a feminine way with slightly different touches!
- Add warmth and height : As I mentioned above, the floor lamp helped to add height in this room with tall ceilings, but I also included a faux tree and curtains. These elements help to add warmth and softness to the room. I always like to have some sort of greenery in my rooms and curtains that are hung as tall and wide as possible really finish off a space.
What do you guys think? Did I miss any crucial home office design elements? I hope this helps give you a guide to create the home office of your dreams! They say you’re more productive when you have a clean and organized space you love!
