Welcome to the second installment of Friday Furnishing Ideas! [Check out last week’s post here!] Like I said last week, I need to start doing these design boards in my own home, so that’s exactly what I did this week!
I’ve been wanting to redo some of the decor in our house to make it all more cohesive and the style that I really want. I’m planning on doing a few of these design boards to make sure they all work together before I change anything! It can definitely be hard to make your house feel cohesive, but I think it’s pretty important to achieving a high-end feel to your home decor.
I figured I’d start at the front of the house and work my way back, so here is an entryway design board! I also put these pieces into a picture of our entryway below to see how they would actually work.
Just like last week, I started with our paint colors and some coordinating colors. We have Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams in almost every room on our first floor, except our dining room [which is visible from the entryway and is Dorian Gray by Sherwin Williams]. PS. Check out the paint colors in our house here and my tips for choosing paint colors here!

Some other considerations I made while creating this board: any furniture we currently have that is visible from the entry that I definitely want to keep, any decor items we currently have that I could incorporate (the floor vase and blue grass stems), and the size of the items we need for the space.
A lot of the times when I’m shopping, I find something I like first and then measure second. But it definitely makes more sense to do it the other way around! For instance, we really need a custom size runner in our entry because it is a very long but relatively narrow space. A runner of 3 or 3.5 ft by 12 ft is really the correct size but since that’s not a common runner size, my first attempt was two buy two 4×6 rugs and put them both in the entry with a small gap. It’s an ok look but not ideal. If I’m going to redo the decor here, I want it to be exactly the way I want!
So, I measured everything first, wrote it down, and then started shopping. And then, when I found something that could possibly work, I actually taped it out in the space to make sure.
Here is how I envision some of the pieces in my entry:
Also, this week I thought I would include some pictures that inspired this look for me!
I love the coastal and beachy feel to this spot! It might be just a tad bit too beachy for my house but I am definitely trying to incorporate a few more modern coastal elements in my decor.
I love the neutral, muted colors in this one and sophisticated feel! My design is an attempt at blending the two inspiration pictures!
What do you guys think of this design? Any other ideas for me? This space really has me stumped with what the ideal furniture/layout is!
