Happy Sunday Y’all! My second post of the day – phew! I’ve been super busy with design boards lately (thank you, thank you!) and I’m getting around to sharing some of them! Below, I’m sharing three modern farmhouse dining room design boards. They each have a different wall treatment/feature idea – hope this provides some inspiration! I love the interest that wall treatments and trim detail adds, especially in a formal dining room such as this one.
My own dining room has wainscoting (which you can see here, and read about what I would change here). I also wrote a post on some other trim options a few years ago, which you can see here. With further ado, let’s get to these dining room designs!

Option 1 – Board and Batten
Board and batten is a great way to add a little bit of farmhouse style to your home. In this design, I modernized it a little bit by painting it a color other than white! Here the board and batten is BM Revere Pewter and the walls above are SW Pure White. I added just a touch of coastal with a seagrass vase on the table.
Option 2 – Moody Picture Molding
Dark and moody dining rooms are on trend right now! I love the dimension and differentiation that they can add to a home, especially one that has a majority white walls elsewhere. The paint color in this room is SW Needlepoint Navy. For the trim detail in this design, I did picture molding around the whole room. This design really balances some traditional elements with modern paint, and farmhouse furniture.
Option 3 – Picture Molding Accent Wall
Painting the whole room a deep/navy blue too much for you? Consider just doing an accent wall! This accent was is painted Farrow & Ball Hague Blue. This has the same feel as option 2 but a little bit lighter feeling since we kept three of the walls white! I love the modern floral prints and the curved lines of the end chairs!
I offer 4 e-design and 3 in-person design packages ranging in price from $75 to $375! All packages include full accessibility and communication with me as well as unlimited revisions!
