Hi, friends! This post has been a while in the making and I’m finally getting around to writing it! I’ve compiled a few house exterior ideas that I’ve put together for design clients over the last year or two.
These all have a bit of a modern farmhouse style to them but totally different feels! Keep on scrolling for a bunch of different modern farmhouse home exterior inspo!

White Modern Farmhouse
For the first exterior design I put together, I created two options with white siding. I used different accent elements to make these options feel different. In the first, a white brick skirt keeps the overall palette very cohesive and simple and really lets the wood accents shine! Aren’t these wood garage doors dreamy?! A hanging gas lantern on the porch completes this modern farmhouse look.
The second has a bit more of a modern feel with black accents and a stone skirt.

Modern Farmhouse with Coastal Accents
The next exterior house design I put together also featured white brick and siding but with shutters and a colored front door, it evokes a little bit of a coastal feel!
I put together several color palette options for this home. It’s important to consider tones when you are looking at paint, so you’ll notice I broke the options down in the “cool” and “warm” palettes.
Below, you can see renderings of two of the color palettes. I also published a blog post with these front porch decor ideas that you can read here!
Exterior Refresh
For this exterior refresh, I really focused on the details! An updated brick skirt, shaker singles, and new shutters totally changed the look of this house! On the front porch, I updated the door color, added new lighting and decor, added corbels to the posts, and a black iron railing on the stairs.
Modern Farmhouse New Build
I had so much fun putting together the different looks below for this modern farmhouse new construction home! This house has a lot of elevation change and interest on its exterior, which means there are countless options for materials and looks you can create!
On the first option, I created a “dark” scheme using gray siding, black board and batten, black gutters, stone, and wood accents. The second option features a “light” scheme using cobblestone siding, white board and batten, white gutters, stone and wood accents. I did make sure to create contrast in this option with a darker shingle on the roof and black garage doors.
Note I used the same hanging gas lantern in front of the front door on both of these designs as I did in the first white modern farmhouse above! You’ll also notice both of the new builds (this one and this first design above) have black windows – a very popular feature for modern farmhouse exteriors!
