Hey y’all! Happy Thursday! Today I’m sharing another one of my designs – this one is a modern farmhouse living room! It has 3 kind of unique areas that I helped with – the entertainment center, a desk/work from home area, and decor for the main seating area.
You may remember these Modern Farmhouse bedrooms – same client! I love doing multiple spaces in the same house because it really helps create cohesion throughout the home!
I actually created a custom design package for this client as their needs fell in between a 2D Full Room Mood Board and 2D Small Space Mood Board. Feel free to reach out to me here if one of my standard packages isn’t what you are looking for!

Living Room Seating Area
For this particular design, most of the large furniture pieces were already in place! I can absolutely incorporate and work with the furniture you already have in my designs! Below under “Shop the Look”, I included what I was able to link, but additionally, this modern farmhouse living room design features this couch, this entertainment center, and a discontinued patterned chair.
I also worked with the paint color that was already in the room – Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee. This was a great neutral base. I added some accent colors to create a color palette [always my first step for designs!]. The accent colors I chose are: BM Gray Owl, BM Kendall Charcoal, and BM Wrought Iron.
I added some cozy elements to the living room seating area with throw pillows, a chunky throw blanket, an area rug to tie it all together, and a large olive tree for greenery.
Modern Farmhouse Entertainment Center Decor
For the entertainment center decor, I incorporated a few pieces the client already had! I don’t like for open shelving to feel cluttered so here a few tips I used when creating this design:
- Use baskets for extra storage and to take up a larger area. I like the symmetry of doing them on both sides.
- Keep in mind the “rule of 3” (you can see this on both of the top side shelves).
- Use an larger anchor piece (ie. the black frame on the middle right shelf).
- Books are great to fill up space. I like to make them cohesive with covers in the same color tone!
I also added decor on top of the entertainment center as the unit seemed short when compared to the ceiling height and I wanted to give the illusion of more height. The scale of this wall is very large so a larger feeling unit will help to “fill” the wall. In order to create a large scale width wise, I also added a faux tree and blanket ladder.
Incorporating a Desk “Corner”
Like many people, this client is now working from home and they don’t have a dedicated home office, so a corner area in the living room was the best solution! The desk is out of stock but the file cabinet and hutch can be found here.
I wanted to make this an inviting but practical space. As you can see, I included a space for their printer and dual monitors. I also included extra storage bins and boxes in the hutch. I used greenery to add warmth and a desk chair that ties in with the pillows in the seating area.
You will see in the design board below the area rug and some of the pillows I chose for the living room – by placing these on the design board as well I was able to visualize better and ensure the desk area really worked in the space as a whole!
I offer 4 e-design and 3 in-person design packages ranging in price from $50 to $275! All packages include full accessibility and communication with me as well as unlimited revisions!
I love how this design turned out and really feels like a practical livable space with style!
