It’s the final week of the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge! While there is a 99.9% chance I don’t actually finish our dual home office in time for the end of the challenge, I did manage to finish our small office bathroom! Woo!
If you’ve been following along with our One Room Challenge plans, you saw my small modern bathroom design boards a few weeks ago. I thought I would reshare the overall mood board for this space again. If you missed all the details, check them out here.

We didn’t have any crazy plans for this space as all the design elements were already in place, it just needed to be enhanced! [A wall treatment, like shiplap or an accent wall color, could look really cool in here but I wasn’t up for it after wallpapering the home gym nook in our office, and that adds a ton of visual interest to the overall space anyways]
Modern Bathroom Demo
Before we get to the good stuff, let’s take a look back at a before picture of this room [see the whole room before in all it’s glory here].
Here’s what we did during “demo”:
- Removed 24″ towel bar which was way too big for the wall it was on [also I’m not sure what the point of 24″ towel bars are because they are too long for just 1 towel but they don’t fit 2 towels side by side…..anyways….]
- Removed plated glass mirror. I should have filmed my husband doing this but alas, I always forget to get “in progress” shots. Our mirror didn’t have clips and was just glued to the wall. Here’s how he managed to get it off in one piece! Sidenote: I followed Marissa at HerrHome‘s Instagram stories to do this as she recently did the same thing with her master bathroom mirror and if you’re not following her, you’re missing out!

Plated Glass Mirror Removal Steps
- Duct Tape Mirror to prevent glass from breaking. I did all four edges first and then a few vertical, horizontal, and diagonal lines across the mirror.
- Hammer trim shims all the way around mirror ever few inches. Try to get them as deep as possible. [We couldn’t go all the way around because of the other wall and vanity countertop, but it still worked!] This should start to loosen the mirror from the wall.
- Safety first! Make sure your gloves and glasses are on! Use a pry or crow bar or the back of the hammer [if you’re lacking in tools like we are] to continue to loosen edges.
- Once you’ve loosened the edges enough to get your fingers between the mirror edges and the wall, gently rock the mirror further to loosen the glue until the mirror completely separates from the wall. You’ll then just have patch the spots where the glue was and paint!
Modern Office Bathroom Decor
I actually stuck to the design board pretty closely! I did make a few changes with the shelf and vanity decor and ended up opting for the hanging plant instead of stool with plant on top [just felt too cramped].
I’m linking everything I used in this space below. The towels, shower curtain, and soap dispenser are from Target but are no longer available, unfortunately – I’d really love to get a second of the bath towel!
The art print I had printed at Nations Photo Lab – they’re my go-to for larger digital prints [this one is an 18×24 printed in lustre – I always go with lustre or matte]. For the hanging plant, I had to add some extra twine to extend how low it would hang [we have 9′ ceilings for reference!].
The wall color is SW Repose Gray and the vanity and trim is a custom color! Our simple white subway tile in the shower is available on Amazon and the floor is a 10” Black Hexagon Origami tile with dove gray grout.
What do you guys think of this modern look? I’m loving it for our office bathroom!
