If I’m being honest, Halloween was always my least favorite holiday. Dressing up in a costume always gave me anxiety (still does), and I hate being scared (and I scare VERY easily). But, I think it’s Alex’s favorite holiday! When we bought our first house, he went nuts over being able to decorate for Halloween. His enthusiasm has rubbed off on me a little, so for the first time, I really went all out on decorating a few areas. Nothing crazy and I limited it to two main areas, but I thought I would share what we’ve done!
Also, you can shop all of our decorations directly below!
First up is outside. Since this is our first year in a new house, it was a little bit of experimenting. I’m sure we’ll change this up/improve it next year. We hung a few spiders from our second floor porch and added some purple lights to our railings. I love spider webbing so we put that along our pillars/hedge row at the very front our yard. We also bought a skeleton and gave him a nice seat on one of our rocking chairs.
The coolest thing about our exterior decorations, in my personal opinion, are the projections we display. This year we have one projection in our upstairs double window and one of the windows downstairs. To be honest, some of the projections scare me and I prefer the fun, kid-friendly ones, but alas Alex handles them. Here is a link to the projections he uses. All you have to do is hang a sheet or shower curtain inside your window and then use a projector insider with your projection loaded onto it. This site has how-tos as well! Usually on halloween, we also do a projection outside onto pumpkins to make it look like they have faces and are singing. The kids LOVE it.

Inside, I mainly focused on our entryway and living room. In our entryway, I covered our mirror with spider webbing and I added bats to the entire wall. I stuck the bats to the wall with tack. It was super easy and is such a fun touch!
In our living room, I added spiders to our bookcases and fireplace surround. I used multiple sizes of spiders and used tack again to stick them to the wall. I also added a black spider web runner to our mantle.
PS. I like to stock up on webbing for the next year right after Halloween because it is usually on sale!
I have a few other small touches scattered around the house, including black flowers on our island and our front porch, skeleton-like figurings, and a fun candy jar!
Happy Decorating!
