Hey y’all! It’s been a minute!! You’ve been keeping me busy with design services and I’m loving it! [Insert shameless plug for my design service here and go ahead and check out my packages here!] Today, I’m back with another round of Design Board Thursday! Feel free to go peruse my other designs here. Do you remember the Classic Coastal Powder Room Design I shared a few weeks ago? Today, I’m building on that design and showing how just a few changes can really elevate and change the whole powder room!
Classic Coastal Powder Room Design
Let’s start off with my original powder room design here:
This design was an easy way to update a traditional powder room and give it a quick refresh! A new light fixture, mirror, and decor gave this room a classic coastal feel without a ton of work or DIYs. But, if you wanted to take it a step further, you could totally change the look and feel of this room [without repainting AGAIN!]. Keep scrolling to see!
Powder Room Trim and Hardware Ideas
The first change I made was to add wainscoting on the bottom half of the walls. This was a natural progression of the room as there is already a chair rail! Chair rails had their moment but now they can make a space look a little bit outdated. Luckily, wainscoting easily adds a classic, fresh, update to incorporate a chair rail! Check out a similar situation where I also suggested wainscoting for an entryway here.
I personally almost always suggestion painting wainscoting a crisp, neutral white – usually the same color as the trim to keep it consistent! Of course, you could do a colored wainscoting if you have white walls and colored trim – this is a really cool, modern look in certain spaces!
There are definitely other trim elements that look great in a powder room! For example, I have an accent wall of shiplap in my powder room and I absolutely love it! [See it here and check out some of my other favorite trim ideas here.]
Secondly, I updated the hardware to all matte black. While I definitely love brushed gold for a coastal look [see all the brushed gold hardware in my kitchen here], the black really pops against this wall color. One of the reasons I originally selected gold was because the current faucet and hardware [towel bar, toilet paper holder] was brass and so it was less to update! But, you can see how much the black hardware really gives the space a modern vibe.
What do you think? Which powder room design do you like better?
