It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge!
If you’re new here, you can catch up on what I’m working on for the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge here: Week 1 [Plans for a Modern Dual Home Office], Week 2 [Creating a Small Home Gym Area]
This week I’ve been focused on the small bathroom that is attached to our office. I created some design boards for the space that I want to share below!
Yes, I know in Week 1 I said I wasn’t going to do much with the bathroom….but you know, one thing leads to another…and here we are!
Current Bathroom Decor
The current pictures are super sad – this little bathroom is hard to photograph and I obviously didn’t stage these pictures at all. I have to admit this isn’t actually what the bathroom has looked like the for the last 1.5 years. I started moving things around yesterday – hence why there is an empty picture frame above the toilet!
Small Bathroom Inspiration
You guys know I love my inspiration pictures! Lately, Pinterest and LiketoKnow.it have been my go-tos for inspiration.
Originally, I was thinking of doing two floating shelves over the toilet to fill out the space better and for more storage. But, then I saw this picture from Katie at Little House of Four and I’m obsessed! She actually did this bathroom for the One Room Challenge a few years ago!
Sarah at Sugar Maple Notes totally confirmed my decision to go with one floating shelf with artwork above with her modern farmhouse bathroom! Her bathroom layout is similar to mine!
I have an accent wood stool that isn’t really serving any purpose in my home currently, so I thought I might be able to incorporate it in the bathroom! How pretty is this set up from Ashley at At Home with Ashley?? That plant and planter is amazing!
Black and White Bathroom Design
I wanted to do more detailed design boards for this bathroom so below you’ll see three designs – one specific to the vanity area, one for the toilet area, and one for the towel hanging area [which is right across from the toilet].
The walls in our bathroom are Repose Gray [same as the office] and I’m going to leave them. I briefly thought about painting it white, but I don’t think that’s necessary and I didn’t want there to be too much going on since we already have a patterned wallpaper in the office.
I didn’t do one for the shower because there’s really nothing for me to do there. We have this white subway tile, a simple black tension rod for hanging the shower curtain with these hooks [our shower curtain is no longer available, but I’ve linked one I LOVE below!] I am hopefully going to switch out the shampoo/conditioner/body wash bottle for amber ones with writing like these!
For the vanity area, the biggest thing we need to do is take down our plated glass mirror that was installed when we built our house. I want replace it with a black round mirror. I think this will instantly transform the bathroom!
For the area above the toilet, I just love this print! I think it’s so fun since this bathroom is for our office! I also want to add a basket to the back of the toilet to hold a few rolls of toilet paper. Because we have small vanity with no drawers, everything gets messy and lost in it! I think a basket would work better for us. Check below for what I plan to do for organization in the vanity!
We currently have a towel bar which is too big for the wall – it covers over the top of the light switch! I want to switch that out and add some fun decor on top of hooks. I think men and women restroom signs would be so great – like a real office space! I’m considering adding signs like these to the front of the door, though. Decisions, decisions!
I’m also still playing around with the stool and plant idea. I love it but the bathroom is small and I’m not sure if it makes it feel too cramped. Another option is a hanging plant in the corner of the shower! I definitely want to add greenery because that helps soften the starkness of the black and white and just generally makes me happy!
Bathroom Organization
Like I mentioned above, I definitely need to come up with an organization and storage solution for our vanity. I haven’t thought through this yet, but my favorite organization blogger, Kelley Nan has a whole post on bathroom vanity organization! Definitely will be using her suggestions when I get to that point!
I also picked a rug for our office this week [more to come]! Tune in to my instagram stories to see more behind the scenes!
