Last week on Instagram and Facebook (follow me here and here), I asked what design and decor questions I could help with! One of the answers I got was throw pillows!
If you’re anything like me, it is REALLY hard to visualize how throw pillows will look together. Today, I’m going to share 5 ready-to-go throw pillow combinations that you can utilize to get that “put-together” look on your couch or sofa.
Inspiration Pictures
First, I thought I’d share some inspiration pictures of beautiful throw pillow combinations. These designers are some of my go-to’s for all design and decor, but especially throw pillows!
I love the sizes of the pillows in this picture by Studio McGee. Another one of the more difficult aspects to throw pillow combinations is getting the sizes correct. It can look silly if you have multiple pillows of the same size! At the same time, 1 pillow in each corner definitely looks unfinished and to be honest, a little sad! Varying the heights and shapes is one aspect to creating a beautiful vignette of pillows.
The colors in these pillows from Pure Salt Interiors are calling my name! I love the blues and greens and overall coastal vibe. At the same time, notice the white pillow in the background? You can easily add pops of color to your room with throw pillows but neutral pillows with patterns are a beautiful way to tie everything together.
Another big throw pillow combination topic is sectionals! I love the pillows on this sectional from Megan Molten. There are different ways to style throw pillows on sectionals (Pinterest has a ton of good visuals on this). In this picture, I like how some of the pillows repeat, but the combinations in each corner are also slightly different.
5 Throw Pillow Combinations
Below are 5 throw pillow combinations I put together! Each combination has a larger pillow between 20 and 24 inches, a smaller pillow between 18 and 20 inches, and a lumbar pillow. I think a combination of these three sizes is the easiest way to start. This type of combination will look great in the corner of a couch or in the middle corner of a sectional.
However, you should take in to consideration the scale of your couch. For example if you have a small sofa, you might want to do 20″ and 18″ square pillows because 24″ and 20″ may take up too much space.

The specific question I received on throw pillows was regarding how to mix pillows on a leather sofa. Depending on the other colors in the room, I put together row #4 above specifically for a leather couch. Because leather couches tend to be darker and heavier than a fabric sofa, I like to keep the pillows light and airy to brighten up the space!
Pre-Made Pillow Bundles
If picking out a bunch of throw pillows that all work together haunts your dreams, another route is to buy a pre-made bundle. Below I’m sharing 4 different options at various price points.
One word of caution regarding the Woven Nook pillows: They are great, affordable pillows that go together, but they are all the same size in one set [so, for example, you’ll receive 4 18×18 pillows]. As I discussed earlier, varying the sizes gives a more put together look, so I would add in some other pillows to these combinations – however, you could use the Woven Nook package on opposite corners of your couch or chairs in the same room!
As a typical woman, I say the more throw pillows the better! [My husband does not agree lol] What do you think of these pillow combinations? Let me know if there is anything else I can help with in this “You Asked, I Answered” series!
