If you’re looking for an easy project to refresh your powder room, then today’s post is for you! I recently completed a two day powder room makeover for my best friend and it was so fun! Day 1 was painting (which she did ahead of time) and Day 2 was adding a peel and stick accent wall and decorating. Keep on scrolling for all the before and after pictures, links to the decor we used, and a cost breakdown! Spoiler alert: We completed the whole makeover for under $500!

Before
The paint color before was SW Mysterious Mauve, which turned very purple in this room. I love using Samplize to order and test paint samples before committing to a color! It’s important to see the color in the actual room you will be using it in because lighting plays such a big role in how the color will look.
We didn’t plan to replace the pedestal sink and I didn’t see a need to replace the faucet or other accessories (towel ring and toilet paper holder) as we wanted to keep it budget friendly!
Outside of changing the paint color, I definitely wanted to update the light fixture and mirror to something more modern.
The Design Plan
My plan was to paint the room a soft green/gray tone and add peel and stick wallpaper to the wall behind the sink and toilet. I love using peel and stick wallpaper for a fun accent and non-permanent way to change up a space! Check out my peel and stick wallpaper tips here.
With the accent wall, I didn’t want to overdo any wall decor, so I planned to add one large piece of art on the back wall. I also wanted to add black accents to pop against the paint color and wallpaper and woven accents to add some softness.
We pretty much followed the design plan exactly, with just a few changes!
- Switched out the artwork – this abstract framed canvas is gorgeous but it was a little bit too large and overwhelming in this room. BUT, it worked perfectly in the guest bedroom, which we also made over! Check out that makeover here!
- Rug – I found a similar rug to the one in the design plan from HomeGoods! The one in the original design plan was too large as well but I wanted to incorporate this type of pattern and colors.
- Mirror – We found a cheaper, almost identical mirror at Kirkland’s and it was also on sale!
After!
As I mentioned above, I always recommend testing paint colors with Samplize! We tested out 5 Sherwin Williams green tones: Acacia Haze, Sea Salt, Oyster Bay, Dried Thyme, and Evergreen Fog. We went with Acacia Haze, which is actually the color that I included in the design board above!
For the wallpaper, we chose the gray color, which worked out perfectly as it has a bit of a green/gray tone to it! I used two rolls for this wall, which is 4’11” wide by 9′ tall.
