My back entryway command center is finally done! I finished it up over the weekend and I’m so excited to share it with you guys!
Last week, I shared some inspiration pictures and what I planned to put in my command center [read that here].
We originally only had a last name sign and key hooks here with a different runner rug. After the decision was made to change my office to a playroom [more on that here], I came up with the idea to turn this area into a full blown command center with some of the organizational items that had been in my office and I’m loving the result!
We have a lot of large empty walls and corners in our house and I love how this command center really fills out this area. Our mudroom/laundry room is in between the two walls.
I am also really glad that I switched out the runner. I went from a 2′ wide runner to a 2.5′ wide runner (by 8′) and it made a huge difference! The jute gives a more natural, coastal feel which is exactly what I was going for!
So, how did I plan this all out?
Here are the steps I took to accomplish this look:
- Decide what your key elements are and how you want to incorporate function vs. decor [I talked more about that in my post last week here].
- Gather items you have that you might want to use. Gather extra because you don’t know exactly what will fit where or look good together. I started with things that I had around the house/in my decor bins and then I shopped for any additional pieces after I had exhausted my options at home and finalized the layout [for example, my letterboard used to be on my bar cart in my dining room].
- Lay out your items on the floor or on a table. I actually taped out the width of my walls and approximate height on my floor so that I could play around with where to put things. Then you can tinker with how things fit together [for example I switched around where to have the key hooks several times, but ultimately decided it was better to have them higher than lower].
- Once the layout is done, all you have to do is hang everything!
I also wasn’t necessarily intending on adding a plant in the corner, but I felt like it needed a little something!

You can shop all the exact items from my command center above. Below, I’ll share how/why/where I found these items and also alternatives if the item is no longer available or linkable!
Shop the Look
Calendar // This acrylic calendar from Girl Friday Acrylics is so cool! We did have some issues installing this piece, which made this whole process a lot longer than it needed to be, but I think we just had issues with the drywall anchors we were using [it will be easier if you install it with the great instructions that come with it, but we had to move it from my office]. Also, just a note – I originally tried to DIY this on the cheap and it was a terrible FAIL.
Mason Jars // I wanted something to hold a few pens/dry erase markers for the calendar and paper roll. I had originally intended to hang some cups off a rod here. I had the hardest time finding what I was envisioning [Ikea has something similar, but it was way too long], so I switched to mason jars! My husband said we probably could have DIYed these, but at $15 for 2, it was way easier to just buy them all finished!
Welcome Arrow // The last piece to my command center! I really struggled with if we needed something under the mason jars, but I feel like this arrow completes it. This comes UNFINISHED, which I apparently did not read when I bought it because I thought it was going to be gold. I initially intended on spraypainting it gold, but then realized our gold spray paint wasn’t metallic-y enough [I wanted it to match the “B” on the other side]. So, I ended up putting a little Weathered Oak stain on it!
Letterboard // I originally bought a letterboard for weekly pregnancy pictures and baby announcement [see it in action here, here, and here] and it has now found a permanent home in our house!
Last Name Sign // We received this as a Christmas gift a few years ago!
Mail Sorter // I got this years ago from HomeGoods. Below are a few similar options! HomeGoods has a great selection of command center/organization/office type stuff!
Key Hook // We got this a few years ago for our first house. Sharing a few similar options below!
Pineapple // We actually just got this as a Christmas gift! I may have a slight pineapple obsession and didn’t know what to do with this yet, so it was a perfect fit. Other similar ideas are below!
Letter “B” // This was a housewarming gift! Similar linked below.
Paper Roll // I just had to have this when I saw it. It used to be in our laundry room, but really didn’t get any use. I think it looks so cool as part of the command center!
Plant // This plant was a TJ Maxx find a couple months ago. It looks like it’s no longer available, but here are some similar options!
Runner // Our back entryway/hallway is approximately 4’4″ by 8’10” so a 2.5′ by 8′ runner is perfect! This area gets a lot of traffic so I image we will have to switch out this runner fairly often, so I didn’t want anything expensive and at $43, this one fits the bill!
