Happy Saturday! I can’t think of any better way to start the weekend than with a great cup of coffee [or latte if you’re a coffee snob like me]!
I’d actually venture to say that our coffee maker is the most used appliance in our house. We also use it for tea and between my husband and I, it’s doing some serious work every single day.
With that said, I wanted to reorganize and optimize our coffee area to make it more functional!

Location
First, I want to set the scene as to where this is in our kitchen. This small counter is next to our refrigerator on the side of our kitchen and our microwave is below it. The space is just over 43″ wide. You can read more about our kitchen in my Kitchen and Butler’s Pantry Reveal here.
Counter Top Before
I always jump into projects and never remember to take a before picture, so you’ll just have to use your imagination! It was fairly similar to this, with a few notable differences.
- The coffee and espresso makers were all the way to the left of the counter. I typically don’t like to have ANY appliances on the counter, so I was trying to hide them as much as possible by having them in the corner.
- We didn’t have a honey pot, and my husband always has honey in his tea, so one of those honey teddy bears was constantly on the counter.
- I had different decor on the wood slice so my new Torani syrup didn’t fit and was just sitting out by itself [with the honey].
- We didn’t have a mug stand so all of our mugs were jam packed into our cabinet.
Counter Top After
First, I moved the coffee and espresso maker to the center of the counter. This was imperative because the water reservoir for the coffee maker is on the left and it was very difficult to get out and fill when it was pushed up against the wall.
Second, I got a cute mug tree to help with the storage issue in our cabinet and also to add balance to the counter. The space would have looked really empty without anything on the left of the coffee maker. I did also reorganize our mugs into two separate locations – one for every day mugs and one for seasonal/holiday mugs. Yes, I have started to amass quite the mug collection [to the dismay of my husband].
Third, I got a new honey and sugar pot set from the Hearth and Hand line at Target and they are perfect! The sugar cup is smaller than my old one, but it will take me SO long to get through all that sugar anyways! I added some florals to round out the decor.
Coffee Drawer
I also created a coffee drawer right under the coffee bar. Again, forgot to take a before picture, but this used to be our junk drawer and it was a NIGHTMARE. I’ve moved the junk drawer to a larger drawer in hopes that will help it stay more organized.
We were using the cabinet further below to store all of the coffee and tea, but it was hard to see what we had and get out the pods. This makes it so much easier to see everything. We’re still using the cabinet below for the extra supply! Luckily, we are blessed with an overabundance of cabinets in our kitchen so storage isn’t a huge issue at the moment!
Lastly, one of my favorite things about this drawer is the new coffee spoons I got! I just think they are the cutest – and they are really convenient too! I don’t have to go all the way to the silverware drawer to get a spoon to stir my coffee/tea!
